Village Help for South Sudan has enabled a local team to build and operate a multi-purpose community center in the village of Rhumathoi. This center answers many of the needs of the community by providing adult education, vocational training, a meeting place, and agricultural training and support. The Center offers a demonstration farm for learning irrigation and other techniques to extend crop diversity and yield. A shop for selling grains and surplus vegetables is located in a nearby marketplace. A solar energy system provides lighting and basic electricity at the Center, and a home lighting microenterprise employs a local entrepreneur, with profits used to sustain the Center’s operations. Rhumathoi has become a vibrant gathering place for socialization and for local residents to teach one another.
